The Final VBF

Wow! Is it vintage black friday already? I know,  I know, it's really Thanksgiving but I thought I would do my post a little early so I can wish you all a Happy and Gracious Thanksgiving day. Also, I don't want to risk missing the final day of VBF tomorrw just in case I don't wake from my Turkey coma early enough to post.

I absolutely love this vintage prize ribbon! I found it tucked away in an old book...so totally awesome!  Check out the detail in the fringe and in the star at the top.  You won't believe this but,  upon studying it closer I realized that it says, "Congratulations to Gypsy Fish for winning the VBF giveaway" .Yes, yes, that's what it translates to.....  It must have belonged to forturne telling gypsies from 1908, otherwise how could that be?  Oops,  there I go again,  living in my own head.....now I've created my own special language...ha ha wink, wink!
Seriously though,Thanks so much Jill for hosting VBF it's been a blast of  vintage fun.....and inspiration!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Studio Update

Stage 3.......

.....well, things are moving along with the studio renovations. Everything fit upstairs hooray! I was so  worried that the twisting turning stairs leading to the third floor would give me and my guys a hard time.
So, its all in, thanks to my hard working mover guys, aka son and friends....  Now that I've got the bones in place and am getting a feel for the room it's time to paint and distress.

Here's a shot of my inspiration colors sans black but, of course that will be thrown in wherever possible..
I'm liking the zinc steel colored distressed box. bling of silver and the softness of antique lace.....

so here's what I have to work with and here's my pallet ...any ideas I would love to hear from you
Me, I'm thinking. paint the old oak curio to imitate the zinc-y metal colors of my steel box, distress to see the wood through and load it up with goodies....Paint and distress the legs of the setee, leave the dresser alone..by the way, I've been hanging onto it for 2 years waiting for the perfect spot....I love love love this chest, check out the hardware!
That brings me to my work table...it's really a quite beautiful Jacobean style table but it needs a little funk!..any ideas?
I would love to hear from you.....thanks for reading my ramblings...have a wonderful week!

Happy VBF!

Hello all...just a short vintage black friday post this week...two of my favorite chairs...Victorian Yard Chairs..at least that's what the man, who chased me down at the flea market wanting to know how much I paid for them, said. Not the greatest pics, would have rather set them out in my beautifully manacured yard, the one with the sprawling rose gardens and the smell of sweet lavender as you brush down the winding paths of foliage. But, alas its cold and the yard is bare.  Can you tell I live in my head alot ......ha ha .... Happy VBF!

Benefit Day

This weekend Gypsy Fish will be having a benefit day!  I have a friend who is battling a rare form of cancer one of which I can't pronounce or even spell for that matter. Without getting on my soapbox I must say that our health care system seems to always want to fail when we need it most.  Denise is fighting for her life so why should she have to waste her precious energy fighting the insurance company?  Which brings me to the benefit, in order to help relieve some of Denise's expenses Gypsy Fish has decided to donate a percentage of all our sales on Saturday November 14 to help her out with the mounting medical bills so she can concentrate on her recovery .  To add to the day we will be having one of our favorite card readers in attendance for the whole day 12-5....she will be donating her proceeds as well. Come and shop with a cause...

First Coat of Paint....

After tearing up the rug from the floor and with a little resistance from the man we tore up the rug from the steps as well...ughh ,why, why do they think they know better?Well we entered the second phase of our "redo".

Paint!
First coat is done second coat is today!!!!  I picked a slightly grey, lavender called
Cloudy Dream (Benjamin Moore, only Benjamin Moore) So here's the result....of just one coat.

I never realized how incredibly bright and sunny that room is....I can't wait to start creating up there. Thanks for taking a peek and letting me share this fun adventure with you.

Things To Put Things In.....

Happy VBF!  Yeah it's back! Check out all the vintage black goodness over at the French Cupboard where Jill and Polly have combined forces to bring VBF back!
I have resurrected one of my previous VBF posts in the spirit of all the packing and unpacking I've been doing since I closed the brick and mortar and moved it home....
So much to do, so little time. Someone once told me that storage and organization are a virtue..hmmm well, I'll try. So here's my attmept at storage and organization on Vintage Black Friday
I picked up this very cool vintage spice tin with the jars just yesterday.  The little black coin purse holds pretty glass moon glow beads.  It's kinda cool to see what objects are suited as vessels for all your goodies. What do you store your favorite treasures in? Happy VBF!

And so it begins...

Well just this summer my lovely daughter ventured out into her own apartment. Although I miss her soooo much...I am so proud of her independence! She has the most adorable apartment that she's made into a home for her and her furry son "Spike".  The most adorable grand puppy ever!

Now did I mention I'm left home with two and a 1/2 men...one 15yr old one 51 yr old  and one furry and four legged....I am all alone in a sea of testosterone! How is it that dinner converstation now only consists of grunts groans and one word answers?    The problem is that I have no one left at home that gets my vintage grirly brain...oh well, I've got a plan! You know what they say when life gives you lemons...we'll this is gonna be a bit more complicated than lemonade but here it goes.....new studio!  Perfect get away, vintage ,creative inspirational ,serene and totally desingned and created by me...no compromise with the guys...me me me all the way... I just can't wait!

.....since my darling daughter moved away I now have and entire 3rd floor attic with two rooms....hmmmm might I say EMPTY! Can't wait to paint the walls and paint the floor and load it up with vintage treasures and finds. And alll my stuff that I have stashed in every nook and cranny of this old house.

At this point my scrunchy little studio is in my son's old baby room. The room I think could actually be a walk in closet..so I'm in there old red wall, ikea shade and all. Not quite the inspirational space I've always dreamed of...well at least not 'til now...so here are a few shots of the "now" studio...and a few shots of the soon to be new studio/stock and shipping room in all it' "before" glory....as you can see there's quite a bit of work to do...this 125yr old house is never easy to renovate...hopefully this will be smooth as gypsy silk.....
